Art education allows students to express themselves in diverse and unique ways, fostering creativity, communication, executive function and fine motor skills. Providing specialized art instruction is an essential part of RUSD’s commitment to educating the whole child.
For 17 years, The Foundation for Reed Schools has provided funding for the art programs and specialists at all three schools. At Reed and Bel Aire, students benefit from instruction that integrates visual art with appreciation and analysis. Hands-on and collaborative art projects foster critical thinking and abstract thought, skills that ultimately transfer to all areas of the curriculum.
Del Mar students have the opportunity to pursue visual arts education through a 6th Grade Art Wheel as well as Intermediate and Advanced Visual Art in Grades 7 and 8. Beyond these traditional art electives, students can choose to continue their art education through several integrated art electives such as Digital Imaging, Integrated Media Arts, Digital Publications, Design Lab and Robotics.
